Rain Cloud Collage

This rain cloud collage project is easy & FUN to make! Collage art is a foolproof kids project because there really are no rules! Just cut & glue and the creative magic will happen!

Its been pouring rain at our house for two days so that’s where the inspiration for this project came from. We definitely had zero plans to leave the house for any supplies so I just gathered what we had an laid it all out in on the table for my boys to work with. You can make this project as simple or complex as you want - my boys are 2.5 and almost 5 so we kept it simple.

Here’s a list of what we used to make our collages:

  • Cardboard for cloud base & rain drops (aka Amazon boxes & tissue boxes)
  • Coffee filters
  • Scrapbook paper
  • Crayons/markers/paint
  • Felt
  • Fabric scraps
  • Elmers Glue
  • Scissors
  • Twine (or string of any kind)
  • Hole punch
  • Googly eyes (because my boys can’t make a project without them 🤣)

We have lots of basic art supplies in our house all the time but you could use basic white paper and color it, cut up magazines, or even collect things from outside to make you collage. Remember this project is suppose to be easy breezy!

Once you’ve gathered your supplies the fun begins!

Helpful tip: If you have younger kids like me prep all the supplies and lay them out in bowls for kids to grab and glue as needed. You could also preselect a color scheme to stick to you make your clouds come out with whatever vibes your looking for EX: use only blue/gray colors for rainy clouds or pick pastel supplies for a brighter look. As you can see from the photos Bodhi went for bright rainbow colors & Teddy and I choose to stick with a blue color palette.

Now here’s the step by step on how to make your cloud

Step 1: Draw and cut your base shape out of cardboard.
Step 2: Cut & glue your hearts out! I always say the more texture the better so go wild with the supplies you use.
Step 3: Set your decorated cloud to the side & color your raindrops.
Step 4: Hole punch your raindrops & cloud and tie together.
Step 5: Let your collage dry completely & hang up your master

That’s it guys! Seriously, you can’t fail at this and your kids will have a blast cutting, coloring & glueing all the bits and pieces together! Bodhi said his favorite part was making the raindrops in rainbow colors on his. Teddy’s was definitely into globbing the glue on the cloud and smooshing on piece after piece 😂. I had fun helping him cut and fold paper into crazy zig zags and
